It is easy to print gray text from any word processing program to any PostScript printer such as the Apple LaserWriter. All it requires is a font called Gray Helvetica which is available on the AMUG BBS (GryHelvetica) and on AMUG disk #???. (The BBS version is in the “Packed” format which can be unpacked using the “Other” menu in Stuff-it. This font works best at large point sizes (30 points and up). When I have too much large text competing for attention, I make some of it gray.
Gray Helvetica is a composite font that is exactly the same as the standard Helvetica except the characters are filled with a gray cross-hatch pattern. To use Gray Helvetica install both the Laser and Bit-Mapped versions in your system. The next time you open any word processing application, select Gray Helvetica from the font menu whenever you want gray text.
